BEST PRACTICES

UNAIDS has signed a LOA with Bangladesh Women’s Health Coalition (BWHC) for documenting selected Best Practices including lessons learned in HIV and AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment interventions in Bangladesh for increased advocacy, information sharing and possible replication.

The three selected Best Practice areas to be documented by BWHC are

1. Inclusion of Voluntary Counseling and Testing at brothel based HIV/AIDS Intervention Program. 2HIV and AIDS Impact on children and families, and 3.Successful local response of Condom Disposal System.

The final three documented Best Practices will be ready by December 2007.

South Asia sub regional workshop

Members of the independent commission on AIDS setup to better analyze the potential impact of AIDS on economies, Societies, Individuals and families visited Dhaka for a two-day South Asia Sub-Regional Workshop. The workshop was held in a local hotel. Some selected government and civil society participant attended the workshop from Nepal, Pakistan, Ski Lanka and host country Bangladesh.more.

At a ceremony held at a local hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh. UNAIDS and Grameen Phone Bangladesh Ltd Joint forces in lunching a campaign for HIV and AIDS, with the support of high profile leaders Mr. Prasada Rao, UNAIDS regional director for Asia Pacific and Eric Aas, Executive director of Grameen Phone signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations, formalizing a public private partnership initiative. The ceremony was graced by a team of high-profile local “champions” who have joined the UNAIDS Asia Pacific Leadership Forum (APLF), including Health Adviser Major-General Dr. A S M Matiur Rahman (retd), Runa Laial, Alamgir, Bibi Russel and Shykh Seraj and Kafil Muyeed. detail Film UTSHO

A premier screening of “Utsho” will be held in the Public Library Auditorium in Dhaka. Special guest will include; Health Advisor Government of Bangladesh, World Health Organization representatives and UCC.

The tele-film narrates the issues of stigma and discrimination of a middle class HIV positive couple in Bangladesh. It touches upon social, cultural and medical aspects that PLHIVs face in Bangladesh on the daily basis.

UNAIDS Bangladesh used the momentum surrounding World Aids Day 2007 to continue to roll out the UN Learning Strategy to support the response to HIV and AIDS within the UN and among UN families.

UNAIDS staff facilitated a 2 day workshop for heads of agencies and human resource personnel to look at crucial issues of HIV in the work place; UN Cares and UN Plus; and will also hear  personal perspectives. The workshop participants also decided on key area of focus of joint activities in 2008.

The UN Information Center (UNIC) in Dhaka inaugurated their Celebrations of World AIDS Day with the “Red Ribbon Run 2007” in collaboration with UNAIDS, Shaptashikha Health, Education and Environmental Foundation (SHEEF) and United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB).
